Since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022, Kyiv has successfully launched an intensive and effective public relations campaign. This effort, aimed primarily at garnering popular and official support from Western countries, influencing global public opinion, and securing crucial military and economic aid, underscores the importance of strategic communication in modern warfare. Ukraine's adept use of media platforms, digital tools, and various diplomatic channels has helped Kyiv shape a compelling narrative about the war among Western officials and the public. This strategic approach has ultimately impacted the dynamics and course of the conflict over the past two and a half years.

Intertwined Dimensions

Ukraine has effectively managed its public relations campaign since 2022 to rally Western support during the war by utilizing a range of tools. This can be explained as follows:

1- Zelensky's role: 

President Volodymyr Zelensky's actions are at the forefront of Ukraine's PR campaign. Leveraging his media experience, Zelensky has crafted a compelling narrative around the conflict, portraying Ukraine's struggle in his frequent addresses to the public, often delivered via social media or television. He has also used these platforms to directly appeal to the international community, framing Ukraine's efforts as a crucial defense of democratic and Western values against Russian aggression. Since the start of the war, the Ukrainian president has relied on shared democratic principles and the moral imperative to support Ukraine during his international tours. He has made several key visits to the United States and various European countries, including Germany, France, and England. Additionally, he has participated in European Union and NATO summits and meetings to emphasize Kyiv's need for military aid and Western economic and political support in its confrontation with Russia. Social media has emerged as a key element in Ukraine's public relations strategy. According to the latest statistics from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the United States remains the largest provider of aid to Ukraine, with a total allocation of €75.1 billion, including military aid amounting to €51.6 billion. Germany comes second with €14.7 billion, the United Kingdom (€13.1 billion), Japan (€9.1 billion), and Canada (€7.2 billion).
