Diplomatic Movements: Prospects and hurdles for ending the War in Yemen

One year into Operation Decisive Storm launched to restore legitimacy to Yemen and end the coup carried out by the rebel Houthi militia and forces loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh against the state, there are signs indicating a different stage of negotiations. This stage is backed by reports about some parallel track for solving the conflict, statements from involved parties to show good intentions, and Iran’s resentment. However, this optimism is yet to be truly tested. This is due to the vague positions of some parties, namely the Yemeni Congregation for Reform (Al-Islah Party) and the General People's Congress, as well as the need for initiating new measures to build confidence between the warring parties.
