Engineering Elections: Significance of Escalating Conflict between Rouhani and Hardliners
Although Iranian President Hassan Rouhani accused the Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for choosing the country's supreme leader, of engineering elections and consequently approving the nomination of some candidates after they were ruled out from the elections, it is too early to predict the chances of either camps, the conservatives and the reformists, in winning the forthcoming elections. This is due to several factors relating to the division in the conservative camp, as well as a lack of knowledge of the effectiveness of countermeasures taken by the reformists to avoid the exclusion of the Assembly.
